You built a practice. Now let’s build the business behind it.
Whether you’re a solo practitioner trying to get out of reactive mode or a group practice owner navigating the complexity of leading a team, you deserve more than generic business advice from someone who has never run a practice.
I’m Cindy Trawinski, Psy.D. I founded and operated two psychotherapy practices in the Chicago area, and I bring 25+ years of clinical and business leadership to my work with practice owners. I understand both the operational realities of running a practice and the strategic thinking that helps it grow.

Learning how to manage my practice with an eye toward the bigger picture has significantly changed how I view my business and myself as a professional.
Cindy shared a lot of knowledge that was very practical and applicable to my practice.
It has given me a clearer sense of the numbers of my business beyond my general accounting statements.

How We Work Together
I meet you where you are. Whether that’s untangling your finances, building your first real strategic plan, or figuring out how to lead a team that didn’t exist two years ago. Every engagement is different, but the approach is the same: we work on your actual practice, in real time, with your real numbers and decisions in front of us.
During our initial call, we’ll talk through your challenges, your goals, and whether one-on-one consulting is the right fit. No pressure, no pitch — just an honest conversation about whether I can help and what that might look like.
1. Foundation Phase
Most engagements begin with bi-weekly two-hour working sessions over four to seven months.
How It Works
The focus varies significantly by client:
- Some are getting their heads around their numbers and profitability for the first time
- Others are building their first strategic plan
- Still others are navigating a major transition or growth challenge
- Many are doing all of the above
You’ll leave each session with something concrete to act on. Tools and frameworks are applied directly to your practice, not handed to you as homework. You can pause or stop at any time if it’s not delivering value.
2. Foundation Phase Review
After four to six months, we pause to take stock. This isn’t a formality, it’s a genuine evaluation point.
How We Review
What’s changed in how you run your practice? What still needs attention? What are your priorities from here?
We look at what you’ve built, what’s working, and what you want next. Some clients complete the engagement here. Most choose to continue with a monthly rhythm to maintain momentum. The decision is always yours.
3. Ongoing Partnership
Once your foundation is built, many clients shift to monthly two-hour sessions for ongoing guidance, accountability, quarterly planning, and strategic support.
What This Looks Like
Once your foundation is built, many clients shift to monthly two-hour sessions for ongoing guidance, accountability, quarterly planning, and strategic support. We typically schedule these as standing monthly appointments, with additional hours available as needed.
This ongoing work helps you:
- Have a trusted advisor when big decisions arise
- Stay focused on strategic priorities instead of getting lost in daily chaos
- Maintain momentum instead of backsliding into old patterns
- Adapt to new challenges as your practice evolves
- Continue developing as a leader and owner
Project-Based Work
Whether you are launching a new service or planning a transition strategy, projects are scoped and quoted individually based on what you need.
How We Scope
Some engagements center on a specific initiative:
- Launching a new service or program
- Planning an exit or transition strategy
- Building your first comprehensive business plan
- Developing a marketing strategy
- Restructuring operations for efficiency
These are typically quoted based on scope and timeline.
Why This Approach Works
Most practice owners don’t lack motivation or skills — they lack outside perspective and dedicated time to work on the business instead of in it.
You don’t have to figure this out alone. Bringing on an experienced, objective mentor helps you to focus on issues and concerns without feeling overwhelmed.
The practice you want to lead is closer than it feels right now.
Investment: Fees & Engagement
One-on-one consulting is billed hourly, with a two-hour session minimum.
- Hourly rate: $345/hour
- Typical foundation phase investment: $4,000-$10,000
- Ongoing monthly support: $690/month (one two-hour session)
The range reflects how different every engagement is. A solo practitioner focused on one or two pressing challenges will work at a different pace and scope than a group practice owner navigating hiring, systems, and strategic planning simultaneously. Where you fall in that range depends on your goals, the complexity of your practice, and how quickly you want to move.
We’ll talk through what makes sense for your situation during your complimentary discovery call.

Let’s Talk!
I bring 25+ years of clinical and business leadership to my work with practice owners. I understand both the operational realities of running a practice and the strategic thinking that helps it grow.
Not Sure If One-on-One Consulting Is Right for You?
Most practice owners who reach out aren’t in crisis. You’re a competent, committed clinician who has hit the limits of what you can figure out alone. You know something needs to change but maybe you’re not sure where to start, or whether consulting is the best next step:
- You’re making important decisions without enough information or outside perspective
- You know you need systems but can’t build them while keeping up with everything else
- You’re avoiding delegation because you’re not sure how to manage it well
- You want a trusted advisor who understands both the clinical and business sides of practice ownership
If any of this sounds familiar, a discovery call is a low-stakes way to find out whether this is the right fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most engagements start with bi-weekly two-hour sessions. That’s four hours a month, plus time between sessions to act on what we’ve worked on together. The owners who get the most out of consulting treat those hours as protected time — not something to reschedule when things get busy. If your schedule is unpredictable right now, we can talk through whether the timing is right.
One-on-one consulting is billed at $345/hour with a two-hour session minimum. There’s no long-term contract — the foundation phase runs on an hourly basis so you can experience the work before committing to ongoing support. Most foundation phase engagements run between $4,000 and $10,000 depending on your goals and pace.
You’ll know because things will change. You’ll make decisions you were avoiding. You’ll understand your numbers. You’ll stop reinventing the wheel with every operational problem. Most clients notice a shift in how they’re running their practice within the first two to three months — not because the problems disappear, but because they have a clearer way to approach them.
It depends on what you’re working on. Financial literacy and operational systems tend to show measurable progress within the first few months. Strategic planning, and leadership development take longer — these are skills you build over time, not problems you solve once. We’ll set clear priorities at the start so you know what to expect and when.
Yes. I work with practice owners at every stage — from solo practitioners building their first real business foundation to group practice owners managing teams, systems, and strategic growth. The work is tailored to where you are and where you want to go.
Most sessions are conducted via Zoom. In-person meetings are available on a limited basis for clients in the Chicago area. I work with therapy and group practice owners throughout Illinois and across the U.S.
My expertise is specifically in therapy and mental health practices. I understand the clinical, ethical, and business dimensions of this field — and that specificity is what makes the guidance useful. I don’t work with practices outside of mental health.
Traction Pods are 3-month group programs where 4-6 practice owners learn and apply foundational business tools to their own practice. Great for owners who want a hands-on, structured application of learning to their practice in a peer learning environment with expert guidance at an accessible price point.
AIM Groups are ongoing accountability groups exclusively for Traction Pod graduates who want to maintain momentum with peer support.
1:1 Consulting is personalized, strategic guidance for owners who want collaborative engagement and deeper exploration of complex challenges or prefer individual work over group settings. Many consulting clients have completed a Traction Pod first — but it’s not required.
The foundation phase typically runs 4-7 months with bi-weekly meetings. After that, about half of my clients continue with monthly sessions for ongoing support and quarterly planning. Length varies based on your goals and how quickly you want to move.
You can pause or stop at any time during the hourly foundation phase. After our 4-6 month review, we’ll explicitly evaluate whether to continue. I never want you investing in something that isn’t delivering clear value.
We’ll work with whatever level of detail you’re comfortable sharing. That said, the more transparent you can be about your numbers, the more effectively I can help you make informed decisions. Everything we discuss is confidential.
Absolutely. Some owners benefit from group learning for foundational tools plus 1:1 consulting for specific strategic challenges unique to their practice.
